Abstract

India is the third-largest emitter of CO2 in the world. A major portion of these emissions comes from the burning of imported fossil-fuels in its road transport sector. To conserve the environment and to secure its energy needs, India has embarked on an ambitious program to blend ethanol with gasoline. However, most of the ethanol produced in India is from food-based feedstock which is being questioned for its sustainability
