Depression and suicidal ideations are prevalent in adolescents these days as they get a sense of rapid increase in intensity of the events that transpire. This phenomenon is referred to as “Snowball effect”. Jay Asher’s Bestselling novel Thirteen Reasons Why, published in 2007, presents us with a compelling representation of the effect on a young adult named Hannah, the primary protagonist of the book, commits suicide and leaves a set of tapes which provide with an image of her thoughts that formulated her mental snowball, eventually driving her to take her own life. The paper will highlight the relevance and negative impact of “Snowball Effect” on Hannah Baker’s state of mind, her traumas, and their repercussions in context of the selected source material.
