Abstract

Drug utilization studies are important for improving quality and safety of healthcare. By analyzing prescription pattern, health professionals can identify areas of improvement. Anticoagulant are commonly prescribed medications in cardiology department. Over dosage of anticoagulants could lead to risk of bleeding whereas under dosage of anticoagulant lead to Venous thromboembolism. According to the study by joint commission, sentinel 7.2% of adverse reaction caused by anti-coagulant. Therefore, with the study we aim to evaluate prescription pattern along with prevalence of GI bleeding associated with anticoagulant in cardiology department.
