Abstract

The assessment of growth by objective anthropometricmethods of weight, length/height, and body mass index(BMI) is crucial in child care to assess the nutritional status and for the identification of growth failure. Reference dataare central to growth monitoring and they help doctors, health care workers, and policymakers to diagnose undernutrition, overweight and obesity, and other growth-relatedand endocrine conditions. India is in a phase of nutritional transition andthus it is vital to update growth references regularly.
