Abstract

Biological nitrogen fixation is the most promising process which plays a significant role in agriculture. Diazotrophs are recognized as efficient soil microbes which fix the atmospheric nitrogen. Anegative gram-staining, aerobic, rod-shaped, non-sporeforming bacterial strain Nfb-6, was isolated from the rhizosphere of Piper nigrum L. growing in different areas of Kolli hills, Tamil Nadu, India. Morphological and biochemical tests were conducted for identification and the strain was identified as Brucella. This was further confirmed by sequence analysis of the PCR-amplification of 16S rRNA gene and Nfb-6, and was identified as Brucella anthropi.
