The safety and quality of our nation's highways and roads is of utmost importance, since these networks of pavement carry more people than every other mode of modern transportation combined. Although the use of Image Processing for transportation-related maintenance and detection has grown in popularity over the past fifty years due to advances in technology, there is still room for improvement since Image Processing is not yet being used to its full potential in this industry. The purpose of this research was to deals the many applications of Image Processing to the highway and road maintenance industries.
