Abstract

The synthesis of some 2-phenyl-5-substituted-1, 3, 4-thiadiazol derivatives are synthesized and evaluated for antibacterial and antifungal activity. All the new compounds structures were elucidated by IR, 1HNMR, and MASS spectral data. Antibacterial activity of all compounds was evaluated against Bacillus subtilis, Bacillus megaterium, Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas Species and antifungal activity was evaluated against Candida albicans. Study revealed that Compound 9f showed potent activity against Bacillus subtilis and Bacillus megaterium with MIC 6.8 and 7.4µg/mL respectively. Compound 9e showed potent activity against Escherichia coli with MIC 2.2 µg/mL. Compound 7i showed potent activity against Pseudomonas species with 1.8µg/mL. Compound 9i showed potent antifungal activity against Candida albicans with MIC 6.4µg/mL.
