Abstract

Neodymium-doped CeO2 nanocomposites (Nd = 0, 2, 4, and 6 wt %) solid solutions were successfully synthesized by EDTA-Glycol method. Phase identification, microstructural and ionic conductivity of all the ceria ceramics were observed by powder XRD, SEM, and impedance analyses respectively. For all the prepared samples, XRD analysis showed a cubic fluorite structure of ceria having symmetric breathing mode (O-Ce-O). All these samples were found to have density above 85% after sintering at 1250°C for 4 h. The ceria sample NC 4 comprising 4 wt % of Nd was found to demonstrate the maximum ionic conductivity with the least activation energy among all the existing Nd-doped ceria ceramics. These features make it a promising candidate in the IT-SOFC as the electrolyte material.
