Abstract

Background: Medical education is demanding, and MBBS students often face significant levels of stress due to the rigorous curriculum and the pressure to excel. This study aims to investigate the nature and extent of study-related stress among MBBS students at Sheikh Zayed Medical College Hospital in Rahim Yar Khan, Pakistan. Aim: The primary aim of our current research is to assess issues contributing to study stress among MBBS students, understand its implications on their mental and physical health, and identify coping strategies. Additionally, we aim to provide recommendations to mitigate stress and enhance the overall well-being of these students. Methods: This research utilizes a blended methodology, merging quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews. A survey will be administered to MBBS students to collect information on the origins of stress, its impacts, and how individuals manage it. In addition, semi-structured interviews will be held with a subgroup of students to delve further into their personal experiences. The data analysis will encompass both quantitative statistical examination and thematic analysis of qualitative data. Results: Preliminary findings indicate that study stress among MBBS students is prevalent, with academic workload, time management, and high expectations being prominent sources of stress. Furthermore, this stress is found to impact students' mental and physical health adversely. Coping strategies include peer support, exercise, and time management techniques. Detailed results and recommendations for stress reduction will be presented in the final report. Conclusion: Study stress is a significant concern among MBBS students at Sheikh Zayed Medical College Hospital. The findings of this study underline the need for institutional support and interventions to address this issue and promote students' overall well-being. Recommendations based on the study results can guide the development of programs and strategies to reduce stress and enhance the quality of medical education.
